but what if I tried to touch it with soft hands
Was, wenn wir uns sanft herantasten an das, was uns erschüttert? Diese Arbeit entwickelte sich aus meiner Erkundung haptischer Wissensvermittlung und begann mit der Erinnerung an die erkaltete Haut vertrauter Körper. Die als Rechercheobjekt entstandene Latex-Halbkugel „konserviert" Materialien, denen man im
Sterbe- & Trauerprozess begegnet. Sie reagiert auf Hautkontakt mit Licht, das langsam verblasst, wenn der Kontakt wieder aufgelöst wird. Das eingeschlossene Ultraschallgel
macht das Material leitfähig und erinnert an die instinktive Verbindung von ebensolchen Übergängen wie Tod und Geburt. Der instinktive Umgang mit diesen Themen
fußt vor allem auf körperlich verankertem Wissen. Der Arbeit zentral ist die These, dass Neugier und Trauer koexistieren können, wenn sie sich gegenseitig formen dürfen. Die Skulptur
soll herausfordern, zwischen Spiel und Andacht zu oszillieren. Das Unbehagen muss nicht aufgelöst werden, sondern uns helfen Komplexem durch den Körper zu begegnen.
What happens when we approach what unsettles us gently, harnessing the body? This piece evolved from my exploration of haptic knowledge transmission and began
with the disruptive memory of touching a familiar body gone cold. The latex hemisphere, developed as a research object, "preserves" materials encountered
in the process of dying and grieving. It reacts to skin with light that fades slowly as contact is released. The ultrasound gel filling ensures conductivity of the material
while recalling the instinctive connection of such transitions as death and birth. The instinctive handling of these themes is rooted in embodied knowledge. Central
to this work is the thesis that curiosity and grief can coexist when they are allowed to shape each other equally. The sculpture challenges oscillation between play and reverence.
Disturbance does not need to be resolved or overcome but can help us meet complexity through the body.
